1966 Chevelle SS
Undercarriage Restoration
Comming Soon
The toughest decision to make on the '66 was how to approach the underside of the car.
Although it is tempting to completly restore all the components, the truth is "it's only original once". To that end, I have decided that over the winter I will clean things up best I can by removing all the dirt, grime and surface rust. I intend to preserve items like the paint bands on the drive shaft and inspection marks on the differential.
To date the exhaust system has been replaced by a Gardner long pipe system. While you pay big money for this system, it installs very easily and fits like a glove.

GM changed the tail pipe design from the long style (pictured here) to the short style that exited behind the rear wheels in Feb of 1966. Interesting that my car was built the 3rd week of April... guess the factory had some long style inventory left over!

The tips on both long and short style had a angled cut seen here.
