1966 Chevelle SS
Interior Restoration
763 ~ Black Imitation Leather
Nothing fancy going on here at all... RPO A51 Buckets, D55 Center console, A02 Tinted windshield, No Gauges, No power steering, No power brakes.
As the car spent the majority of its life in Florida, it was apparent the humidity took its toll on some of the interior components. As disassembly began I discovered that the headliner, front seat covers, front door panels and carpet had been replaced. The rear door panels and rear seat cover are still original.
The transformation was going to be minimal but I decided to pull everything out and start from there. While the floors were in good shape, I cleaned them up and then sealed them with a two part epoxy primer. Once that was completed, I installed a new carpet from ACC (fantastic Fit), an original U16 - 5500 RPM Knee Knocker Tach and rebuilt the clock with an original rebuilt clock mechanism from Redline Gauge and Clock Repair. I also replaced the original (worn out) front dash speaker for the U63 AM push button radio with an exact reproduction speaker from Electro-Tech
Other original items I elected not to replace were the firewall pad, standard gauges/idiot lights and the Muncie shifter as I feel they add to the character of this very original '66 SS.
Drop in replacement Electro-Tech reproduction 4 x 10 mono speaker
Original clock date stamp.
Good thing number 1 son could get his hands up under the dash to bolt up the KK tach!
Floors look a little worse then they actual are. A bit of surface rust was removed and two part epoxy primer was applied to seal everything up.
2 part primer applied
Rear section of the ACC carpet fit perfectly. Only has to slightly trim the drivers side for a perfect fit.
Front and rear sections of the carpet installed with correct cuts in the front and rear sections to hide the seat tracks... The seats are NOT supposed to sit on top of the carpet!
Front section of the carpet fits very well over the tranny hump. Good shot of the original firewall pad.
Center console reinstalled
Seats reinstalled. You can see the patina on the Muncie shifter in this shot...
And done!
Original rear seat and door panels are still in decent shape
