ABOUT

My 1969 Chevelle SS was built on February 4, 1969 at the GM Oshawa assembly plant located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The car was shipped on February 5th 1969 to Chibougamau Auto LTD in Chibougamau Quebec which is still in business today. The car remained in the province of Quebec until I purchased it in May of 2013 bringing the car to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Oshawa Assembly Plant

The majority of 1969 Chevelles were produced in the USA in Atlanta, Baltimore, Framingham, Fremont and Kansas City. The final manufacturing site was located in Oshawa, Ontario where 9612 (13637) Malibu 2dr sports coupes were built between January - July 1969.

A total of  903 of those cars were equipped with the super sport package (RPO Z25) and 294 of those Z25 cars had the (RPO L34) 396 cubic inch big block motor rated at 350 HP.

There were two major differences between Canadian and US trim tags. The first was instead of "Body By Fisher" at the top of the tag, a Canadian tag will read "Made In Canada". The only exception to this rule is if a Oshawa built car was destined to be exported to the USA for sale then it would have read "Body By Fisher"

The second difference is that Canadian tags show RPO codes that in my case show my car is a real SS Chevelle.

My tag decodes as follows:

ST  69 13637 ~ 1969 V8 Malibu Sport Coupe
OS ~ Body Assembly ~ Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
445479  BDY ~ Fisher Body data processing number
TR  791 ~ Parchment Coated Fabric (bucket seats)
712C  PNT ~ LeMans Blue / Dark Blue Vinyl Top
A51 ~ Seat: Front Bucket
B79 ~ Exterior Ornamentation Rear End
L34 ~ 396 CID 350 HP 4bbl Turbo Jet

M20 ~ Muncie 4-speed transmission

GM of Canada Documentation

Unlike cars manufactured in the USA, Canadian built Chevelles have documentation available through GM of Canada. These documents detail all the RPO codes that the car was manufactrued with along with production info, engine details, shipping dates and dealer info.

I was able to obtain another rare document from the previous owner which came directly from GM of Canada. Click on the picture to see a copy of the monthly shipment listing showing a list of cars shipped the first week of February 1969.

My car is listed second with the yellow dot.
